Our relationship with Zara Tours has been an invaluable in the co-sponsoring of this very crucial race since its inception in 2008 and hope to continue this great partnership foreseeable future that has the health of many Tanzanians as its prime focus, ” said Mr. William Mpinga, Tigo Brand Manager.
Datus Joseph, Representative from Zara Charity said, “Zara Charity launched the Ngorongoro marathon, an annual fundraising event for a variety of causes like malaria, hospital development and maternal health. We are a registered NGO (Charter # 3959) that provides residency care for orphaned children as well as day care and community support for other children at risk

Currently we accommodate 45 children mostly between the ages of 4 and 10 at a site in Pasua that we are contracted to purchase. We provide our residents with matron supervision, regular nutritious meals, and clothing, school needs that include uniforms, books, materials and fees

UPENDO ORPHANAGE AND NURSERY SCHOOL

Available for:  Internship |  Teacher exchange |  Voluntary work

Upendo is an orphanage maintained by Catholic nuns in Moshi.  In the orphanage, there are 28 workers and 46 children. The youngest children are infants and the oldest are under 7 years old. Most of the children have been abandoned by their parents. Some of the kids are handicapped and they need special care since the local workers don’t have enough time for them.
In the Upendo Orphanage there is also a nursery school for the kids and a school for the nursery school teachers.  Upendo orphanage doesn’t get any kind of financial support from the public sector which means that it fully depends on private donations and supporters. The orphanage maintains a farm on which it keeps pigs, cows and chickens to earn more money for the orphanage and provide food for the children.
The working day in Upendo starts around 9 o’clock in the morning and ends when the kids are going to the nap around 1pm. Because the orphanage is situated very near to TVL house it is possible to go back to work in the afternoon when the kids has woke up. The daily program in the orphanage contains playing with the kids, changing their diapers and clothes and feeding them. In the nursery school the kids are learning numbers, alphabets, colors, days of the week, months, greetings, reading, writing and other skills needed in the primary school.
Upendo orphanage offers internship placements for students on the social field. The interns are allowed to wear their own clothes while working in Upendo, but shoulders, stomach and knees need to be covered all the time. Skirts or trousers that come below your knees and t-shirts are allowed

KIWODEA:
KIWODEA was founded in 1995 by Nancy Tesha. At the time, Mama Tesha was Assistant Commissioner in charge of the Tanzania Women and Children under the Office of the Prime Minister. She saw that the needs of women were not being met so she decided to start an organization to support women. With the help of Hon. Reginald Mengi (Managing Director of IPP Media), Gallus Abeid (Former Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner), and Anne Makinda (at the time Minister of Community Development, Gender, and Children, now Member of Parliament), she started KIWODEA.
The organization was originally started as the WTF micro-credit loan program and has expanded over the years to meet the needs of the women of Tanzania and the impoverished communities of Kilimanjaro, adding a variety income generating activities, a Montessori nursery school, and most recently a library and a project to support people with Parkinson’s Disease and disabilities.
The Parkinson's and Disabilities project began because Mama Tesha's husband, Dr. Tesha died of Parkinson's. During his career Dr. Tesha had many leadership roles in the medical community, including Superintendent of KCMC Hospital in Moshi. In his will, he asked his wife to devote a section of KIWODEA to helping others in the community suffering from the Parkinson's because there is a scarcity of care options for those with the disease as it is very rare in Tanzania

 Masai Women Group Karatu:
This project aims at supporting Masai women so as to liberate them from their traditional belief, which is based on oppression, exploitation and elimination of women within their society.
In order to improve this situation and to help the Masai women in Karatu/Ngorongoro, ZARA Charity plans to build an educational training centre for them the cost for this is $555,000. It will be built in the Highlands of Karatu. Not only a class room, but also accommodations for students and teachers as well as washing and dining houses have to be built. We hope that the skills learned in the center will help those women to grant their family a better living by establishing their own business or by getting employed.
So as to afford a project like this, some of the Masai women have designed several dresses that have strong influences of the Masai colors and jewelry. The dresses are being sold at High view Hotel Karatu and spring land Hotel Moshi, they can also be ordered online. The benefits from the sale will then help to establish the set-up of the educational training centre.
